[for young chefs] Jam Tartlets

(jump to recipe)

Super easy and fun Jam Tartlets that come together with just 2 ingredients – 1 puff pastry sheet and half a cup of jam. Easy and fun to make for tiny hands (with a bit of help from mom or dad, of course!)

Just roll out a sheet of thawed puff pastry, cut into 9 or 16 squares (you could also use a round cookie cutter or a glass to make circles instead of squares!), add a dollop of your favorite jam (you could mix and match with different jams!), and bake!

Here we have one of my favorite jams: Mango!

Jam Tartlets

Makes 9 small tartlets

Equipment
Large baking sheet, parchment paper, rolling pin, fork

Ingredients
1 8-inch puff pastry sheet (such as Pepperidge Farms), thawed in the refrigerator overnight or at room temperature for 40 minutes (should be cold to the touch)
Few tablespoons all purpose flour for dusting and rolling
1/2 cup fruit jam or spread of your choice

1 tablespoon confectioners sugar (for dusting) (optional)

Steps
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Place a big piece of parchment paper on a large baking sheet pan and set it aside.

Place the jam in a microwave-safe bowl and microwave it for 30 seconds. Stir with a spoon to make sure it is smooth and spreadable.

Sprinkle some flour on your countertop and unfold the puff pastry sheet on it. Using a rolling pin, roll out the sheet in all 4 directions, extending it a little bit on all 4 sides. Make sure it is smooth and even.

Flip the puff pastry sheet over 2 or 3 times to make sure it is not sticking to the counter! If it seems too warm or sticky, place it on a plate and pop it in the fridge for 10-15 minutes, and resume.

Using a knife, cut the sheet into 9 squares, and place the squares on the prepared baking pan. Spread them apart evenly so they are not touching each other! Using a fork, prick the squares all over.

Pour a spoonful of the warm jam in the center of each square, and using a spoon, spread it evenly over the sheet, leaving a small border (don’t spread it all the way till the edges).

Bake for 17-20 minutes, or until edges are golden brown. Let cool on the pan, and dust with confectioners sugar (if using). Enjoy warm or at room temperature as a snack.
